Golf is an open air sport played in a 500.000 meter squares golf course having a lot of natural and artificial handicaps. There are 18 holes spread in the golf course, they all have different point values in the game. Four of the courses where “Tee (the beginning point of the game), fairway (the center of the field) and green (the place where there is the flag)” are placed is shorter then 200 meters. 14 of them are between 200-500 meters length. For the beginning hit, the golf ball is put on to the tee. If the distance from tee is 228 meters from here to the hole, it is a “3 par” hit; if it is 229-434 meters it is a “4 par” hit, and if the distance is more than 434 meters, then it is “5 par” hit.
There are 2 kinds of golf play; stroke play and stablefort. At the stroke play; the player who puts the ball into the hole with less stroke wins the game. At "Stablefort" play; every player challenges with other player in the tournament and gets his points according to the handicaps and the holes. The player who gets the highest points at the total sum of all, wins the game.
Golf History
First golf balls produced were out of wood. At the beginning of the 17th century they were produced out of feather. Boiled feathers were squezed into leather covers. Due to the fact that these balls were expensive and their production took longer time, another technique was developed. In 1848, gutta-percha balls were produced which were cheaper than the others. So, that has enabled the golf play to become widespread.
Clubs were also made of wooden in the beginning. Then at the end of the 18th century, iron golf clubs have been used to get the ball out easily from the rugged areas. At the beginning of the 20th century, with the harder rubber covered balls, steel seamless clubs took the place of the iron clubs made of Carya wood.
